My Yuletide assignments (and really, the only works completed all year long):
The Lapwing
Dublin Murder Squad Series - Tana French for blueteak.
Frank Mackey/Stephen Moran
I watched his disorganized red head bent over the ID, and just for a second, under the hard throb of triumph—Up yours, Scorchie baby, he’s my boy now—I felt a little pulse of affection towards the kid. It felt good to have someone on my side.
Frank Mackey, Faithful Place
Be Who You Are
Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018) for rainingover.
Sierra Burgess; Dan (Sierra Burgess); Veronica (Sierra Burgess)
Get out there and be your best selves, my little problem children!
Spider-Man: Junior Prom
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)/Queer Eye RPF crossover for Redrikki
Peter Parker; Jonathan Van Ness; Karamo Brown; Antoni Porowski; Tan France; Bobby Berk
The Fab Five come to Peter's friendly neighborhood.
Rubicon
Queer as Folk (UK) for Philipa_Moss
Stuart Alan Jones/Vince Tyler
Stuart Alan Jones in 2018.
THE RECS
Obviously, I will lead with the lavish gifts I was afforded this year:
Compounding Interest by MerlinMissy.
Princess Bride
Inigo/Fezzik
"Welcome to the Slaked Vengeance, sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning" is an advertising slogan that only appeals to a select clientèle, most of them wearing more black leather than even Westley likes.
An adorably sweet Princess Bride fic--with Rhyming Pirate Husbands!!
5 Songs Sung on the Slaked Vengeance by phnelt.
Princess Bride
Inigo/Fezzik
Through the years, Fezzik and Inigo carry a variety of passengers on their ship, the Slaked Vengeance.
Crossover genius! Aw man, I basically burst into tears half way through. This was so funny and sweet and lovely. Surprises abound, and each one a delight.
The Sum of its Parts by YankingAwry
Mad Men
Peggy/Stan, Dawn Chambers, Sally Draper; Joan Holloway
Cadbury could be ten million dollars in yearly billings, but Cadbury wasn’t Hershey’s, and they weren’t American-made, and goddammit, hadn’t they paid attention to Reagan’s election campaign at all? Not American-made, in this political climate? These days you could barely convince people Vermont was in America.
Holy sweet good goddamn, this is a fantastic and pitch-perfect glimpse into 1982 for the Women of Mad Men. If this was the world for them in the early 80s, and with Sally and Peggy surely to join forces against Ronald Reagan, surely we would be living in the brightest timeline.
Seriously, I got EVERYTHING I'd hoped for under my Yule tree this year!!!
Here are two additional Yuletide fics for your delectation:
The Darkplace Christmas Special by Tarash.
Darkplace
Truly the Darkplace Christmas Special we deserved.
By the way, blueteak got another story that is 30 times better than mine: reverse engineered by arbitrarily.
It's a brilliant Dublin Murder Squad tale--it's ALSO "Undercover in a Sex Club", but done the way it should be, with self-doubt and self-recrimination (none of it Frank's of course), public sex, a fully realized Stephen Moran who felt real to me for the first time, and an actual plot. Even if you don't think Moran/Mackey is a thing, this is worth your time if you have ever read and liked a Tana French novel.
