I downloaded Sherlock Holmes: The Rediscovered Railway Mysteries and Other Stories by John Taylor last night and I listened to part of it on the bus this morning. Up front, I absolutely found it delightful, but at the same time, I think the first story (An Inscrutable Masquerade) was amazingly over the top and cheesier than a wheel of brie. It's certainly ACD-like and stuff, and I sometimes have mixed feelings about Professional Fanfic (I'm lookin' at YOU, Linda Berdoll, and your snotty preface to your Pride and Prejudice "sequel") but this is really everything I enjoy about fanfic, PLUS it's an epic bromance.

I can't even go into it without spoiling you for the story, but it was straight up smarm of the first degree, and it melted like candy floss on my tongue and I enjoyed the hell out of it, even though I found every moment ridiculous and also B. Cumberbatch was reading it as Watson and doing everyone's voices and. That just made my brain sprawl all over the place at once. Also, for no real reason, I would like to listen to him read
Casanova. Even if it's terrible, he really does have a lovely voice.
